Vanillekipferl (vanilla crescent cookies) are my favorite Christmas cookies!
Just like peanut butter chocolate cookies, nut macaroons, cinnamon stars, and anything with marzipan:-).
For years I was of the opinion that Vanillekipferl are very difficult to make. But seeing that I love them, and
seeing that my mum is very far away, I finally gave it a try.
Turns out they are really easy! The trick is to keep the dough cold at all times, and to handle them carefully.
Mine are not as pretty as my mum's but just as delicious!
You will need:
200 g (1.6 cups) flour
80 g (1 cup) sugar
175 g (6.25 oz) butter (cold)
2 egg yellow
100 g (0.5 cups) ground almonds
mark from one vanilla pod
a bit of salt
Vanilla sugar to sprinkle over them once they are baked
Put all the ingredients together (apart from the vanilla sugar for sprinkling) and knead until they form a dough.
Separate the dough into two halves, and roll each half into a long roll.
Cover the rolls with cling foil and put in the fridge for at least two hours.
Preheat oven to 180° C (356° F). Cut the rolls into slices and roll each slice into a ball. Then form crescents out of each ball
and put them onto your tray covered with baking paper.
Bake for about 15 minutes, take out and sprinkle them with the vanilla sugar while still warm.
And now enjoy!
A wonderful day to you :-)
Lots of love,

"Om op te vreten!" Which is more or less like they look like to be devoured. Yummy!

ReplyDeleteDeine sehen spitze aus. Mir gefällt es, dass sie nicht die "typische" Form haben.
An dein Rezept werde ich mich sicher mal rantrauen.

DeleteYum! I have never heard of these before, but they sound like something I would like. Now if I can manage to add another baked good into my Christmas baking craziness this will be it!
ReplyDeleteThey sound lovely! And I would back you about the dough needing to be kept cold - like in any pastry! Must give these a try sometime - thanks for sharing the recipe.
ReplyDeleteAll the best - practice makes perfect, as the saying goes! Isobel from www.ColdhamCuddliescalling.blogspot.com
Thanks so much dear Isobel. I took a bit too long shaping the crescents, which is why they are rather flat :-)
DeleteYum! Those look wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI want some! Do I have to make them myself? Mmmmm
ReplyDeleteThey look yum!
