Peter Pan Collar - a DIY

The last time we visited my parents I bought the German edition of 'Mollie Makes'. Since then the magazine has been
lying around without me feeling any urge to make something out of it.

Until Monday, when all of a sudden I HAD to make the Peter Pan collars they are showing.

There was obviously something in the air because when I went onto the blog of my German friend Birgit, Zickimicki,
on Tuesday, she had just published her version of the same collars.

In case you caught the vibes too, here is a DIY:

You will need:

different colored felt
scissors
little buttons
some ribbon or a necklace chain
needle and thread

I copied the template of the collar from the magazine, but it is pretty simple to draw by hand too.
Just remember that the two sides are mirror images of each other, especially when you use such an ugly fat pen to
draw with. I had to turn my template around and re-draw one of the pieces:

You can cut out different sizes and different colors and layer them:

To  combine the two pieces, I made a little bow out of a piece of ribbon and sewed the parts to the back of the bow.
Then I added a small button:

Now you just have to add some ribbon to the other sides and you are done:

Here is a different version. For this one I used chains to close the collar:

And here they are, shown on a rather reluctant model. She finds the collars 'really embarrassing, mum':

I hope you like them more than my daughter :-).

Have a wonderful day!

Lots of love,

P.s.: I am linking to these lovely parties.

  2. These are very cute! And I like them as a necklace, because I really like the Peter Pan style, but on a dress or a blouse it does not really flatter my body type.

  18. Well, they are unique, they are whimsy and romance getting together. So what that your daughter is not considering them good for them. Let her doll use them instead, or wear them yourself, with some soft mohair.. Thank you for sharing them on our blog at the Wednesday linky party!
