Grapefruit Syrup
It is grapefruit season.
Like most of the things that are in season right now (spinach, pumpkin, eggplant and cabbage), the gorgeous
yellow fruit is intensely disliked by my family.
So I had a lot of grapefruit sitting in the basket on my kitchen table, looking pretty and attracting fruit flies.
Today I finally decided to do something with it. Funnily enough, once the grapefruits are turned into grapefruit syrup,
they love it.
In case you have a similar problem, here is the recipe (works just as well with lemons and limes):
Squeeze the juice out of your fruits. I ended up with half a litre of grapefruit juice.
For that amount, I used 1 cup of icing sugar (powdered sugar) and 1 cup of water.
Boil the icing sugar with the water until completely dissolved and add to grapefruit juice.
This is not very sweet, so you might want to add more sugar.
Once this is done, wash and sterilize your bottles by pouring boiling water into them and into the caps.
Also sterilize your funnel.
Then fill the juice into the bottle(s) and refrigerate.
I made a label in picmonkey by filling a photo in with a white overlay, and adding a label and text.
To drink, mix some syrup with water or sparkling water and enjoy!
Have a gorgeous day!

ReplyDeleteYummm! I love grapefruit! This sounds really good and refreshing. Is icing sugar like powdered or "confectioner's" sugar or is it like granulated sugar?
ReplyDeleteSounds great. I love grapefruit. I try to eat a half of a grapefruit for breakfast every day.
