Today is a lovely, grey, moist day. The earth smells like mushrooms, and I had this urge to get my hands dirty.
This is rather unusual.
Normally I do gardening by sitting at dusk with a glass of wine, watching the plants grow...
So here is a DIY loosely connected to Easter (since it contains a giant egg) that is perfect for everybody with maybe
not quite so green fingers.
Get an egg and cut the top off.
I used an ostrich egg because I already had a cut one from one of my many abandoned 'make a lamp' projects.
But you can also use goose eggs, chicken eggs, alligator eggs....
Just adjust the size of your plants.
Drill a hole in the bottom to prevent the water from getting trapped, fill with soil and add plants.
I used stuff from my garden, the succulents make lots of little babies at the moment which are perfect for egg planting.
I have often grown succulents just by sticking pieces that broke off back into the ground, but if you want to be on the safe side put your cuttings in a glass of water until they develop roots, then dry out for a day or so, and then plant.

My egg shells are so tiny and thin, this would be a real challenge. No ostrich eggs within hundreds of miles from here! I love this, though.

I would love to try this with goose eggs. My little (not so little) geese have been laying eggs all month and since we have no boy geese, this is a great way not to waste them.
